PETERSEN MEDIA- Tommy Tarlton and his Tarlton Motorsports team were in contention to grab a win on Friday night at the Ocean Speedway, until a series of events took that reality away and Tarlton would end up with a DNF.
“We had a really good racecar, definitely a car that was capable of winning the race,” Tarlton said. “Unfortunately we got into some trouble, and then we rebounded well and had another issue ultimately end our night.”
Timing the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Executive Auto Sales No. 21 machine in second fastest in qualifying, the Easton, CA driver would finish third in his heat race and take a trip to the Dash.
Netting a fourth place finish in the Dash, Tarlton would line his Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Pabco Gypsum/Bandy And Associates machine up in the second row for the 30-lap feature event.
On the extremely slick ¼ mile, Tarlton would quickly work up into the second spot as he began pressuring the race’s early leader, Shane Golobic. Seeing an opening in the early stage of the race, Tarlton would make his move for the lead and as he moved in front of Golobic, contact between the duo would leave Tarlton with a flat tire and force him to the work area.
Restarting from the tail end of the field, Tarlton continued to flex his muscles on this night, as he worked his way back into the Top-Five as the track began to take rubber. Trying to push the limits of his machine as he tried to get back into contention, Tarlton would lose the handle on his machine and would end up taking his car back to the pit area.
“It was good to have really good car speed on Friday night, and hopefully we can get this thing in victory lane soon for all of our partners,” Tarlton added. “I have to thank Paul Baines and all of the guys who work on this thing every week.”
