PETERSEN MEDIA- Returning to the Ocean Speedway on Friday night after kicking his season off at the Santa Cruz County Fairground against the World of Outlaws just a few weeks ago, Tommy Tarlton turned in a nice performance that saw him net a sixth place finish.
“After our season opener it felt good to get back in the car and be competitive again,” Tarlton said. “Paul Baines and my guys do a great job and make the Tarlton and Son Inc. No. 21 fun to drive.”
The racy ¼ mile Ocean Speedway greeted 23 winged 360ci sprint cars on Friday night, and Tarlton had speed early in the program as he timed the Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son Inc./Executive Auto Sales backed entry in sixth fastest during qualifications.
Lining up third in his heat race, the Easton, CA charger would finish in the third spot and just miss out on a Dash berth by one position, which mean the would grid the field from the fifth row for the 30-lap feature event.
On this night, the surface would stay too good and stay extremely fast which made moving around challenging at times. Tarlton though was able to move around as he would get the Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino/Pabco Gypsum/Bandy and Associates entry up as high as the fourth spot during the feature, though numerous cautions would continue to shake the field up.
When the checkered flag flew on the eventful main event, Tarlton would close his night out with a sixth place finish.
“We were able to move around and get up to fourth and challenge for third, but restarts weren’t kind to us,” Tarlton added. “I have to thank my guys and our sponsor for all they continue to do for Tarlton Motorsports.”
