PETERSEN MEDIA- Tommy Tarlton made his first start with the World of Outlaws on Friday night, and he made it exciting as he charged from his 19th starting position to pick up a ninth place finish in Hanford, CA.
“It took us a little while to get our new engine dialed in, but once Paul Baines and the boys got it figured out, we had a really fast racecar,” Tarlton said.
27 cars checked into the Keller Auto Speedway to take on ‘The Greatest Show on Dirt’, and Tarlton’s night did not get off to the start he was hoping for as he timed his Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino backed entry in 21st fastest.
Finding himself in the fourth row of his heat race, the Easton, CA driver had his elbows up as he worked his Executive Auto Sales/Pabco Gypsum/WFO Apparel machine into the fifth and final transfer position.
Lining up in the 10th row for the 35-lap feature event, Tarlton was extremely patient on the slicked off surface, as he carved his way forward on the track he has had so much success at over the years.
Taking advantage of an early red, Tarlton would gain a couple of positions, as he used restarts to his advantage en route to his charge forward. Getting by Jason Sides and Dominic Scelzi late in the race, Tarlton would crack the Top-10, before he made quick work of Logan Schuchart to take the ninth position, where he would go onto finish.
“It was great to come through the field like that, I only wish we could have started a little better in the main event,” Tarlton said. “Overall I am pleased with how our first night with the World of Outlaws went, and am happy to score a Top-10, and move forward. We have some great partners on board this year, and we want to keep this car up front as much as we can.”
