PETERSEN MEDIA- With family issues pulling Tommy Tarlton away from racing in April, the Easton, CA driver returned to cockpit on Friday night in a big way, as he carved his way to a fourth place finish at the Ocean Speedway after starting in the 16th position.
“Family always comes first with me, and while it was tough to sit out a while, I needed to be with my family, but it felt great to get back in the seat on Friday night,” Tarlton said.
Showing no signs of rust right out of the trailer, Tarlton timed his Elite Landscape Construction/Tarlton and Son, Inc./Tachi Palace Hotel and Casino entry in second fastest.
Heat race action saw things go south for Tarlton, as contact with another car knocked him out of contention, and out of the feature event inversion, and put him in the eight row for the feature event.
Though he was deep in the field, Tarlton had his game face on, as his Paul Baines prepared entry was strong at the drop of the green flag.
Finding the top of the speedway to his liking, Tarlton planted his right rear on the cushion, as he began gaining positions at what seemed like pure will.
With 27 laps clicking off with no stoppages, Tarlton had worked himself up into the sixth spot at the time.
Taking advantage of the double file restart, ‘The Night Rider’ was able to make a bold move and take over the fourth spot, where he would go on to finish, capping off a very emotional night back at the track.
“It was great to be back at the track having some fun with my entire family after the few months that we have had,” he said. “My wife is doing so much better, but it was not an easy road. I have to thank everyone who sent well wishes and prayers for us. On the racing side of things, we were awesome tonight, and I have to thank Paul Baines for continuing to work so hard.”
